Battle Scars #6 brings Agent Coulson to the Marvel Universe and...Nick Fury Jr.?

In today's Battle Scars #6 it is revealed that Marcus Johnson's military partner has been Agent Coulsdon of SHIELD all along, bringing the hugely popular character from the Marvel movies to the regular Marvel Comics universe and continuity. Also, after previously finding out that he is Nick Fury's son, Marcus finds out his real name is in fact Nick Fury Jr, thereby giving Marvel a Sam Jackson-style Nick Fury in their regular continuity as well.

I'll give Marvel a thumbs up on bringing Coulson over and for finding a use for Steve Rogers' cool Super Soldier uniform but I shake my head on the insanely contrived way they found to somehow match the comics to the movies.

Here it is- The Avengers after the credits extra scene leaked online! See the surprise character!

It's a little dark but here it is straight from a foreign bootlegger! So if you can't wait til May 4th for the American release and want to see it now start the video!

Kevin Feige talks Avengers 2- Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver?

During the London premiere of Marvel's The Avengers, called Avengers Assemble in the UK, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked several questions about the possibility of a sequel and what new characters, if any, might be making their appearance in the movie. That brought up the issue of 'rights' to many of the Marvel characters, being the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises are pretty locked up. But not entirely it seems.

Feige stated that the characters of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch have overlapping rights of some sort, meaning that both Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox can use them in films. Now, not sure how you use them in an Avengers movie without talking about Magneto is beyond me. Still Feige did not rule them out.

Guy Pearce set to appear in Iron Man 3

According to several Hollywood sources, actor Guy Pearce, who is currently appearing onscreen in the movie Lockout, has signed on to play the character Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3. Killian was geneticist in the Extremis storyline, written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Adi Granov back in 2005. That story has been rumored as loosely being the basis for director Shane Black's script for IM3.

Love That Panel: Black Widow by Olly Moss

In support of a little movie called The Avengers, Marvel's marketing team reached out to Mondo posters for a series of seven posters featuring the main characters from the movie. And they started the series with this insanely killer Black Widow movie poster. From Huff Post:
For Black Widow, Mondo got famed designer Olly Moss to create the minimalist poster. The striking red-black-and-white print features a profile of Johansson's face, with her red lips replaced with a gun. The tag line reads: "From Russia with Gun," a play on both the famed James Bond movie as well as Widow's origins. Moss has previously designed artwork for "Star Wars," "There Will Be Blood" and Marvel films "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger."

Just look at that wonderful design. I didn't even catch that he used a smoking gun for the lips and nose until after my second or third look.

Just beautiful.

Wizard to bring on the end of the world- will publish comics from Jersey Shore's 'The Situation'

Is this the start of it? Has Wizard World really sunk even lower than we thought possible? So, it seems it will not be a Mayan Apocalypse or zombie invasion that destroys civilization as we know it. Instead it will be Wizard, who have announced they are teaming up with Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino from MTV's Jersey Shore, to produce a line of superhero comics created by him and his family. And of course to help promote these comics The Situation will be making appearances at Wizard World conventions across the country.

'Divided We Fall' is Marvel's Ultimate Event

Following the announcement that the Ultimate Captain America would be coming back to comics this summer Marvel announced that their three Ultimate Comics titles- Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Ultimate Comics X-Men and Ultimate Comics Ultimates- would be coming together in a crossover event called Divided We Fall.

The event will be handled differently in that the cataclysmic events and mysterious new villain behind it will be reflected in the titles separately so that you can read either one, two or all the series and still get a complete story. Also the regular creative teams of those titles will be handling the issues, starting in July shipping issues and continuing for the next two months.

More details to come as Marvel releases them...

Marvel gives Hawkeye ongoing series a shot with Fraction and Aja

It was confirmed during last weekend's C2E2 that following all the attention the character will be receiving thanks to The Avengers movie Marvel will be debuting an ongoing series starring Hawkeye this summer. The book will be by the former Immortal Iron Fist team of Matt Fraction and David Aja.

Fraction has described his approach to the book as being more 'street-level' and focusing on the adventures Hawkeye is having away from the Avengers and superheroics. Also starring in the book will be Marvel's other Hawkeye- Kate Bishop from the Young Avengers.

Here's a look at the first three covers for Marvel's Hawkeye.

Marvel confirms first crossover with Ultimate universe- SPIDER-MEN to star Peter Parker and Miles Morales

So has the internet broken yet? In a monumental reversal of their long-standing policy, Marvel has announced that Brian Michael Bendis' Spider-Men miniseries is the first crossover of the main Marvel Universe with their Ultimate Universe line of comics. Here is the press release:
This June, it’s time for Peter Parker, better known as the Amazing Spider-Man, to cross worlds and meet Miles Morales…the all-new Spider-Man? Marvel is proud to announce Spider-Men, an all-new five issue landmark story from award-winning author Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers VS. X-Men, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man), red-hot artist Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) and acclaimed cover artist Jim Cheung (Avengers VS. X-Men), which brings Peter Parker and Miles Morales together for the first time. That’s right, the Spider-Man from two different realities—the Marvel Universe and Ultimate Comics Universe—bring their worlds together for a battle no one web-head could win!

When Spider-Man tracks down one of his deadliest villains, he suddenly finds himself thrust into another world where Peter Parker is dead…and there’s a new Spider-Man in town. As these two heroes learn the truth about their identities and their universes, they’ll embark on a journey that’ll leave them forever changed—and reveal a startling truth about a key player in the Spider-Man mythos!

"This year is the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man and we’re so happy that the stars aligned for us to tell a Spider-Man story that nobody has ever seen before," said Bendis. "It’s an honor and a privilege to present both this story and these characters to fans on such an auspicious occasion. The work Sara has done on Spider-Men is a step above the already high standard that she has set for herself on our Ultimate Comics Spider-Man series. For me, this is a celebration of the best character in mainstream comics and some of the best art mainstream comics has to offer."

Each issue of Spider-Men features variants covers by some of the biggest names in comics including Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man), Mike Deodato (New Avengers), Marcos Martin (Amazing Spider-Man), Terry Dodson (Avenging Spider-Man), Travis Charest (Captain America) and Sara Pichelli.

"Knowing how much Brian loves and respects Spider-Man, there’s no way I wouldn’t want to work on Spider-Men with him," said Sara Pichelli. "It’s going to be an explosive celebration of Spider-Man’s 50th anniversary—are you ready?"
Everyone should prepare themselves for the requisite fanboy outrage to take over messageboards for the next few days.

Jim Lee's cover to DC's Free Comic Book Day New 52 Special

Following the pattern of recent years, DC's Free Comic Book Day offering is once again being used as a springboard to launch a major publishing initiative. This year DC will be publishing a New 52 Special where they will launch the Second Wave of The New 52 and preview several of those books, including Batman Inc, Earth 2 and World's Finest. It will also feature a Geoff Johns written story that will feature Pandora and further her story that was started by her appearances in all the first issues of the New 52 tittles and recently in Justice League. Johns has also been teasing that this will tie-in to the next Jim Lee illustrated Justice League storyline, beginning in issue #9 of that series.

Dr. Doom fights Captain America!

I was going through some of my old comic longboxes and found this fantastic comic from 1977. I remember picking up this copy of Super-Villain Team-Up at a yard sale or something quite a few years later. I was really drawn to the beautiful Gil Kane cover- just look at that Red Skull! Plus the story was by the under-rated Bill Mantlo, my favorite writer when I was growing up for his work on The Micronauts.

Astonishing X-Men #51- Marvel Comics' first gay wedding?

A few weeks ago Marvel sent out a teaser image telling us 'to save the date' for Astonishing X-Men #51 that there would be a special wedding in that issue. Well they've recently updated the shipping information for that book for retailers and it makes it seem that it will be a very special wedding indeed:
ASTONISHING X-MEN #51 will have everyone inside and outside of the industry talking. Marvel has secured mainstream coverage both on-air and in print, for something that has never been seen inside the pages of a Marvel comic. Not only that, but some retailers are already saving the date and are hosting special wedding events in their stores.

Retailers who exceed 300% of their orders of ASTONISHING X-MEN #49 with their orders by FOC for ASTONISHING X-MEN #51 can order as many copies as they wish of the ASTONISHING X-MEN 51 CREATE YOUR OWN WEDDING VARIANT. Note: details on this variant will be revealed in the coming weeks and is NOT similar to the customized Comic Shop Variants, most recently offered on Spider-Men #1.
Ok so what type of wedding would get that type of mainstream media coverage AND also be something that has never happened in a Marvel comic before? The X-Men's Northstar and his boyfriend have been front burner characters in the book recently so...

Mark Ruffalo really IS the Hulk!

Marvel Studios has released this new image from The Avengers movie. There were a lot of questions on how Marvel would CGI the Hulk in this movie and if there were going to be differences between the look of the Hulk in The Avengers and in the Incredible Hulk which had Edward Norton starring as the character.

Well those questions have certainly been answered by this picture. Clearly Mark Ruffalo is the Hulk and Bruce Banner. The animators have really brought the actor's 'look' into the design and creation of the character. In both previous Hulk movies the Hulk design was not based on the actors playing Banner.

First scene from The Avengers leaked online!

I got my hands on the first extended scene we've seen so far from Marvel's The Avengers. Featuring Black Widow and Agent Coulson it's a great look at the highly anticipated movie. I'm guessing that other leaked clips will be popping up the closer we get to the release dates.
