Here it is...Man of Steel movie poster

Well there was a teaser trailer shown during the panel at the San Diego Comic Con  that I'm sure is going the rounds of the internet right now. And they also released the first official poster for next year's Superman movie, Man of Steel. Copies were given to the attendees.

More to come I'm sure....

Superman vs. Batman: the Smallville meeting we never got on TV

It never happened on the TV show but it is finally happening in the comics book. Superman and Batman finally appear together in the 'in continuity' Smallville Season 11 series from DC Comics and written by TV series writer Bryan Q. Miller. As cool as it sounds there is no denying that its disappointing the team up never happened while the show was on the air.

Here is the cover to Smallville Season 11 #6, the second part of the story. This issue ships in October.

SDCC rumor mill: 'Thor 2' will be called...

One of the many, many rumors floating around the floor and panels of the San Diego Comic Con is that the official name for Marvel Studios' soon to be filming Thor sequel will not be the expected Thor 2 but instead it will be called Thor: The Darkest World. I'm assuming that some kind of official confirmation will come during SDCC. I like the title and a curious as to how it connects to the plot of the film.

Spoilers! 'Iron Man 3' armor revealed!

Yesterday there was an addition to the Hall of Armors that Marvel had on display at the San Diego Comic Con. Tony Stark's armor for the currently filming Iron Man 3 was added for all the attendees to see. The design while somewhat similar to what has been seen before in the two Iron Man films and this summer's Avengers movie is almost strikingly different in the color scheme. Not sure if I'm sold on it right now but who is to say this is the only or final design.

Jock does Dark Knight in film and in comics

Batman writer Scott Snyder confirmed that renowned artist Jock, who has just done a limited edition Dark Knight Rises poster for attendees of the special screening of the film during SDCC, will be illustrating the back up stories in the forthcoming 'Death of the Family' storyline featuring the return of the Joker. Regular artist Greg Capullo will still be handling the covers and interior art as always, Jock is only on for this particular 5 part series of back ups.

Jock's poster shown below is limited to only 250 copies. A larger run will be available through Mondo but is a slight variation. The villain group shot at the bottom is removed.

More Marvel after Avengers vs. X-Men

Marvel released a little bit more of their publishing plan following Avengers Vs. X-Men #12. We all have heard about Marvel NOW! but it looks like there are a few books to go through yet to get there. Similar to how they supported their other big event books it looks like the same is going on here. So far we have Avengers + X-Men and also AvX: Consequences, the latter being a weekly miniseries in October.

Below is the cover to Avengers vs. X-Men #12, the final issue of the series.

Spoilers! Trailer for The Walking Dead Season 3 released

AMC has finally and officially released the trailer for Season 3 of The Walking Dead today during their panel at the San Diego Comic Con. Parts of the trailer have been floating around the internet the last few days- The Comics Ticker included- but AMC had all those lifted. Now we can see Michonne in action and get several extended looks at some of the action the forthcoming season will have in store.

Jessica Biel joins 'The Wolverine' as the Viper

Many internet entertainment news sites are reporting that actress Jessica Biel has signed on to play the Viper in Fox's 'The Wolverine', with production set to begin this fall. There's a little confusion as to which Viper she will be playing in the film since there are at least three different versions of the character in Marvel continuity. Plus another question is the 'rights' issue, since her ties to Hydra in the comics would place her under the Marvel Studios stable of characters. So seems there is more to come with this story.

Batman #13: Scott Snyder and the Joker bring Death to the Family

Following this week's conclusion to the Nite of the Owls in Batman #11, writer Scott Snyder will be gearing up for the Joker's return to comics in Batman #13, the start of the 5 part 'Death of The Family' storyline. The Joker has not been seen since last year's Detective Comics #1 where writer/artist Tony Daniel had the villain Dollmaker actually remove the face of the Killer Clown.

Snyder has been describing the story as his "love letter" to the character of the Joker. Says Snyder...
"So this is my exploration of those things in a way that's meant to be as big and as broad and as deep as I could go. It's not just a Joker story. This is really my big exploration of the Joker myself, in the way that I don't know that I'd ever use him again after this, in the way that this is my huge Joker story, my personal Joker story to end all Joker stories, you know?"
He goes on to say more about the basis of the story as well. After being out of Gotham for a year plotting and planning he is back and ready for revenge on the whole Bat family. Look for him to show up in several other Bat titles during the storyline.

Check out Greg Capullo's cover for Batman #13 below.

First look at Batman #11; Batman vs. his brother?!

DC has released a few pages of this week's Batman #11, thr conclusion of the Nite of the Owls storyline. So is the final Talon really Bruce's brother as writer Scott Snyder dropped on us with the last issue? Snyder has been doing a legendary run on the character for several years now and this issue is going to wrap up lots of his subplots that have been going through all his Bat-work. And of course the art is by the fabulous Greg Capullo.

Marvel NOW! The next titles are...

Well yesterday saw the official announcement of Marvel's Marvel NOW! line relaunch. After months of rumors it was nice to get some confirmation. We got 3 titles so far- Uncanny Avengers, The Avengers and All New X-Men- and some hints of the publishing plan. Marvel's going to intro a new title every week from October to February for around 22 new books. Whether they are all ongoings or some miniseries remains to be seen. So now the guessing begins as to the rest of the books.

I'm figuring all the creative shifts will mean relaunches of those series involved, like Captain America and Fantastic Four. The teaser image from Joe Quesada already shows some new costume designs. I'm hoping for some diversity of titles. Marvel seems to have moved to publishing groups- Avengers, X-men and then everybody else. I would love to see a new Cloak and Dagger series or maybe Midnight Sons.

Whatever they are planning it seems to be the biggest revamp of publishing that I can remember.

Please keep checking back to The Comics Ticker for more Marvel NOW! updates as they are announced.

Marvel after Avengers vs. X-Men- Thanos miniseries

Lots of rumors still flying around the internet about what to expect from Marvel after Avengers vs. X-Men ends in September. Well we have something official now. Starting in October, Thanos: Son of Titan will examine how the Mad Titan himself came to be the death worshiping threat to the Marvel Universe we have come to know.

After his cameo in during the credits of Marvel's The Avengers it was only a matter of time before Marvel Comics began the push to bring the character back into the spotlight.

The five issue series is written by Joe Keatinge and drawn by Richard Elson.

Marvel's next Avengers film: Item 47!

Well thanks to Entertainment Weekly now it's out. The newest production is called Item 47 and it is a short film that will be released with Marvel's The Avengers Blu-ray edition on September 25.

What Looks Good #412

Besides publishing The Comics Ticker blog and slowly working on my comic book series The Venger: Dead Man Rising, I share a column over at the Comics Bulletin. The column is 'What Looks Good' and in it I give my thoughts on the latest news in the comics industry as well as my top picks on comics for sale that week. My latest installment is up today so please go and check it out.

The Joker is back in Batman

The Clown Prince of crime will be meeting the Dark Knight once again. DC Comics announced the return of the Joker in October's Batman #13, the start of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's next story arc following the conclusion of the hugely popular Night of the Owls storyline.

From Snyder-
" Bottom line: it's the biggest, baddest, most shocking Joker story I could tell. This is Joker completely unleashed. He has been away for a full year planning this revenge, watching, plotting, setting things up. And now he's back. He has his traps set, his knives sharpened... And wait 'til you see him. Greg's sketches literally gave me chills. Point blank: This is Joker like you've never seen him before. He has a mission. He has a secret. And he has a serious axe to grind with Batman. It isn't going to be pretty, but it's going to be a wild ride. Thanks for taking it with us.”
